This is our review of Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi coffee and espresso machines.
One of the beauties of Nespresso is that they don’t require you to limit your options to just Nespresso. In fact, they collaborate often with other coffee companies to bring you great coffee makers – and arguably my two favorite brands ever just so happen to have a Nespresso coffee machine: Breville and DeLonghi.
Breville was, in many ways, my first love. It’s a great brand for initiates and they have a lot of range, so you never really “outgrow” Breville.
The same can be said of DeLonghi: they have for a while been one of the giants of the coffee industry, and they have products that are great for newbies as well as for professionals.
In this article, I’ll be talking about all the differences between Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi machines, trying my best to give you a full picture of what owning each of these machines feels like so that you can make a better choice on which machine is better for you.
Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi At A Glance
Both Breville and Delonghi have put out a number of Nespresso machines over the years, and while they are very much Nespresso machines, they still retain a lot of the personality each of them has for their other coffee makers.
We’ll go into detail for each of these, using a different coffee maker to illustrate each example of the key Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi variances.
Comparing Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi
Design & Build Quality
Breville Creatista Plus: The Creatista Plus by Breville features a sleek stainless steel design that adds a modern touch to your kitchen. It has a premium build quality, with attention to detail evident in its construction. The stainless steel finish not only looks elegant but also ensures durability.
DeLonghi Lattissima Pro: The Lattissima Pro from DeLonghi combines stainless steel and black accents to create a stylish appearance. It is well-built and designed to withstand regular use, offering solid and reliable performance.
Both the Breville Creatista Plus and the DeLonghi Lattissima Pro excel in terms of design and build quality, so it’s really a tough choice (at least for me!). I think it ultimately depends on your personal preferences and needs.
Winner: Tied, ever so slightly in favor of Breville. No, of course, I’m not biased.
Functionality and Features Between Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi
When Nespresso came out with their VertuoLine, there was a LOT of hype around it. Companies jumped at the opportunity to be a part of it, hence these two coming out with their own “Vertuo” machines.
Nespresso Vertuo machines are, for the most part, amazing machines. And as much as it pains me to say it, there aren’t really many differences to go on here: the two machines are virtually identical.
They both feature Vertuo’s brewing technology, known as Centrifusion, which combines high-speed spinning and infusion to create a perfectly extracted cup of coffee with a rich crema. This technology ensures consistent results and a delightful taste in every cup.
My favorite feature by far, though, is the barcode recognition.
Each Vertuo capsule contains a unique barcode that the machine scans, automatically adjusting brewing parameters such as water volume, temperature, and extraction time.
This intelligent technology ensures that each coffee capsule is brewed precisely to deliver the optimal flavor profile. Again, both machines feature this technology.
Winner: Tied.
Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi – Size and Ease of Use
If you ask me, this is the whole point of single-serve coffee makers: smaller machines that can be put away quickly. This has always been the greatest selling point for me. The smaller, the better.
Although in my experience, some machines can sacrifice a lot of quality-of-life features for a smaller size, so we’ll have to keep a close eye on that.
DeLonghi’s Nespresso CitiZ is designed to be compact and space-saving, making it ideal for smaller kitchens or limited countertop space. It features a 1-liter water tank capacity, allowing you to brew multiple cups before refilling. The fast heat-up system ensures that the machine is ready to brew in no time.
With its intuitive user interface and user-friendly controls, the Nespresso CitiZ makes operation effortless. It also offers programmable buttons, allowing you to customize coffee volumes to your preferred serving sizes.
The machine is compatible with Nespresso OriginalLine capsules, providing you with a wide range of options to choose from. Oh, and the Nespresso CitiZ includes an automatic power-off feature for energy efficiency and peace of mind.
Breville’s Nespresso Essenza Mini is known for its ultra-compact size and lightweight design, making it incredibly easy to place and move around. It has a smaller water tank capacity of 0.6 liters, suitable for single-serving brewing.
The machine boasts a quick preheating time, ensuring minimal wait time between turning it on and enjoying your coffee. Its simple one-touch operation simplifies the brewing process, allowing you to have your coffee with just a press of a button.
While the customization options for coffee volumes are limited compared to the CitiZ, the Essenza Mini still delivers a satisfying coffee experience. Similar to the CitiZ, it is compatible with Nespresso OriginalLine capsules.
The Essenza Mini also features an automatic power-off function that activates after a period of inactivity, promoting energy efficiency.
Winner: The Essenza Mini: Smaller, more compact, and (almost) just as easy to use.
Essenza Mini vs CitiZ: The Winner
When it comes to the Nespresso Essenza Mini and the Nespresso CitiZ, both have their unique features and benefits.
For those who value simplicity and compactness, the Essenza Mini is the clear winner. Its compact size makes it perfect for small kitchens or those tight on space.
Plus, it’s incredibly easy to use, with just two programmable buttons for either espresso or lungo. The Essenza Mini is perfect for those who want a quick and easy cup of coffee without any fuss.
On the other hand, the Nespresso CitiZ is perfect for those who value a bit more sophistication in their coffee machine. With its sleek and modern design, the CitiZ is a statement piece that will look great in any kitchen.
It also has a larger water tank capacity and offers more programmable features, such as a milk frother and adjustable cup tray height. For those who want more customization and variety in their coffee choices, the CitiZ is a great choice.
Ultimately, the choice between the Essenza Mini and the CitiZ comes down to personal preference and lifestyle. If you value simplicity and compactness, go with the Essenza Mini. If you prefer a more sophisticated machine with more customizable features, the CitiZ is the way to go.
No matter which one you choose, both the Essenza Mini and the CitiZ are great options for anyone who loves coffee. So why not treat yourself to a delicious cup of coffee today?
